India fuel prices remain stable for petrol and diesel

Petrol and diesel prices in India remained unchanged on September 4, 2026. Fuel rates across major cities continue to reflect the previous day's pricing, with updates typically occurring daily at 6:00 AM.

In major metropolitan areas, petrol prices vary significantly due to regional taxes and local levies. For instance, petrol is priced at ₹102.12 per liter in Delhi and ₹111.21 in Mumbai, while Hyderabad sees higher rates at approximately ₹115.71 per liter. Diesel prices follow a similar pattern of stability, with rates such as ₹95.20 in Delhi and ₹103.84 in Hyderabad.

Fuel costs in the country are influenced by several factors, including international crude oil prices, the exchange rate of the Indian Rupee against the US Dollar, and various central and state-level taxes such as excise duty and VAT. Because petroleum products are not currently under the Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime, state-specific taxes play a major role in determining the final retail price in different regions.
