India fuel prices remain unchanged on August 20
Fuel prices for petrol, diesel, and CNG remained unchanged across major Indian cities on August 20, 2026. Oil marketing companies and natural gas distributors maintain the same rates as the previous day.
In Chennai, petrol is priced at Rs 107.77 per litre and diesel at Rs 99.55 per litre. Nationally, Hyderabad recorded the highest petrol price at Rs 115.69 per litre, while Chandigarh offered the lowest at Rs 98.10 per litre. Thiruvananthapuram saw the highest diesel rates at Rs 104.40 per litre.
The current pricing follows a period of volatility; since mid-May, cumulative fuel price increases have reached nearly Rs 7.5 per litre. These hikes were driven by surging global crude oil prices following geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, specifically involving US-Israeli strikes on Iran and disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz.
