India hit by massive floods as Delhi, Maharashtra and Himachal grapple with heavy rain

Heavy monsoon rains swept across northern and western India, causing severe flooding in Delhi, Maharashtra, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. Streets turned into rivers, drainage systems failed, and millions of residents were stranded or forced to seek higher ground.

Landslides were reported in the Himalayan states, with a mountain fragment collapsing onto a road in Pangi, Himachal Pradesh, and debris damaging structures in Uttarakhand. In Maharashtra's Rayagada district, approximately 3,000 gas cylinders were swept into the Patalkar River, raising safety concerns.

A four‑storey construction site in Delhi’s Rohini sector collapsed during the downpour, killing three people and prompting rescue teams to evacuate trapped occupants. Relief agencies, including the NDRF and fire services, have been deployed to extract more than 300 individuals from flooded areas and to assist affected communities.
