India Home Minister Priyank Kharge Criticizes Telegram Ban

Home Minister Priyank Kharge said that the government's decision to ban Telegram is a "lazy and incompetent knee‑jerk response" that punishes students rather than addressing the real problem. He noted that millions of students use Telegram to share study material, receive updates, and coordinate exam preparation. Kharge argued that the National Testing Agency and the central government have repeatedly failed to conduct transparent examinations, and that banning a social‑media platform diverts accountability from these institutions.

He called the ban an immediate reaction to perceived laziness and inefficiency, suggesting that the focus should instead be on fixing the shortcomings of the testing system.
