India hosts 11th BRICS Energy Ministers' Meeting in Gurugram

India began the 11th BRICS Energy Ministers' Meeting on Thursday in Gurugram, the outskirts of New Delhi, under its 2026 BRICS chairmanship. The summit gathers energy ministers and senior officials from all BRICS members – Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and the United Arab Emirates – to discuss cooperation on energy security, sustainability and innovation.

The meeting follows India’s chair‑ship theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability” with an energy‑track slogan “Energy for All”. Priorities outlined include securing affordable, sustainable energy; expanding universal energy access; and fostering technology and innovation. India highlighted domestic progress such as a 50‑fold increase in solar capacity, deployment of over 60 million smart meters, a target of 410 GWh storage by 2032, expansion of transmission networks and green energy corridors, plus biofuel advances like 20 % ethanol blending and rollout of high‑ethanol E85 fuel.

India also pointed to its leadership in global clean‑energy initiatives, including the International Solar Alliance and the Global Biofuels Alliance, and pledged to promote the interests of the Global South. Organisers expect the gathering to deepen BRICS collaboration on energy supply resilience, sustainable development and innovation amid a volatile global energy landscape.
