India hosts 11th BRICS Energy Ministers meeting in Gurugram

India began the 11th BRICS Energy Ministers’ meeting in Gurugram on 25 June, under its 2026 BRICS chairmanship. The gathering, running from Thursday, brings together energy ministers and senior officials from the eleven BRICS members – Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and the United Arab Emirates – representing roughly half the world’s population and about 40 % of global GDP.

The summit’s agenda aligns with India’s chair theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability” and the energy‑track slogan “Energy for All.” Key priorities are energy security and sustainability, universal access and ownership, and technology and innovation. India will showcase its recent advances, including a 50‑fold increase in solar capacity, installation of more than 60 million smart meters, a target of 410 GWh storage by 2032, expansion of the national transmission network and green energy corridors, and expanded bio‑fuel blends such as 20 % ethanol and the new E85 fuel.

India’s chairmanship seeks to deepen practical cooperation among the BRICS on these issues, promoting global‑south priorities and fostering joint efforts toward a secure, affordable and sustainable energy future.
