India Implements Major LPG, Railway and Banking Reforms on Aug 1 2026
From 1 August 2026 India introduced a series of consumer‑impact measures. Commercial LPG cylinders see an average price cut of about ₹180‑₹200, with Delhi’s 19‑kg cylinder now priced at ₹2,728, while the 14‑kg domestic cylinder remains unchanged.
Indian Railways launched a token‑based system at reservation counters for instant ticket purchases, aimed at reducing queues and crowding.
The Reserve Bank of India’s Monetary Policy Committee will meet 3‑5 August, with any interest‑rate decision expected to affect loan EMIs and fixed‑deposit returns.
A new CKYC 2.0 platform allows banks and insurers to retrieve verified KYC data from a single government database, eliminating repeated document submissions.
Credit‑card issuers have revised fee structures: convenience fees, penalties and taxes will no longer be included in interest calculations for unpaid balances. Additionally, taxpayers filing income‑tax returns after the 31 July deadline will face penalties based on their taxable income.
