India initiates integrated tri-service logistics structure
The Department of Military Affairs in India has begun establishing an Integrated Logistics Structure to support future theatre commands. This initiative aims to enhance jointmanship through the development of joint logistics nodes, ammunition depots, air stores supply parks, and material organisations.
To improve efficiency, the military is reportedly developing an in-house Tri-service Logistics Management App and plans to utilize artificial intelligence and machine learning. Additionally, work is underway to create a National Defence Codification System, similar to the stock number system used by NATO.
This logistical push occurs amid ongoing discussions regarding the creation of joint theatre commands. While the Indian Air Force has expressed reservations about the piecemeal distribution of combat air assets—advocating instead for centralized control of fighter jets—the three services are proceeding with joint logistical management as a foundational step.
