Indian military multi-domain integration efforts
Overview
Indian military leadership has advocated for a transition toward a “system-of-systems” approach to enhance combat effectiveness. Chief of Defence Staff General NS Raja Subramani emphasized that success depends on integrating capabilities across various domains to achieve battlefield effects faster than adversaries can respond, prioritizing networking, data, and C4ISR capabilities over service-specific requirements.
Following these calls for modernization, the Department of Military Affairs has initiated the establishment of an Integrated Logistics Structure to support future theatre commands. This initiative focuses on enhancing jointmanship through the development of joint logistics nodes, ammunition depots, and material organizations. To support this transition, the military is developing a Tri-service Logistics Management App and plans to utilize artificial intelligence, machine learning, and a National Defence Codification System. While the Indian Air Force has expressed reservations regarding the distribution of combat air assets, the three services are moving forward with joint logistical management as a foundational step toward integrated operations.
