India invites global bids for 10 GWh advanced battery manufacturing under clean‑energy push

India’s Ministry of Heavy Industries has launched a Request for Proposal inviting worldwide manufacturers to set up giga‑scale Advanced Chemistry Cell (ACC) battery plants with a combined capacity of 10 GWh. The tender, part of the Production Linked Incentive scheme, earmarks the capacity for grid‑scale stationary storage systems. A pre‑bid conference is scheduled for 29 July 2026, with bids accepted until 13 October 2026 and technical bids opened on 14 October 2026.

The new allocation follows earlier rounds that awarded 40 GWh but saw limited commissioning and heavy reliance on imports. By focusing the final 10 GWh tranche on stationary storage, the government aims to bolster domestic clean‑energy infrastructure, create jobs, reduce import dependence, and support the growing demand for energy storage in electric mobility, renewable power and industry.
