India launches Special Intensive Revision of voter rolls in Meghalaya and Maharashtra

In Meghalaya, more than 100,000 enumeration forms were distributed on the first day of the house‑to‑house Special Intensive Revision (SIR) campaign, covering 5.07% of the state's 23.5 million voters. The drive, which began on June 30 and will run until July 29, involves 3,551 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) each handling around 662 electors. Distribution percentages varied by district, with South West Garo Hills leading at 20.49%. Voters may also submit forms online via the ECINET mobile app or Voter Services Portal.

In Maharashtra, the SIR phase has commenced as part of the Election Commission of India's nationwide effort to cleanse voter lists. Voters must be listed on the 2002 electoral roll; those not matching will receive a notice to provide documentation. Required documents depend on the voter's birth year, ranging from identity cards, birth certificates, passports, school certificates, residence or land allotment certificates, caste certificates, the National Register of Citizens, family registers, or Aadhaar where applicable.
