India prepares for 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi

India is preparing to host the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi from September 11-13, 2026. The summit, held at Bharat Mandapam, focuses on themes of resilience, innovation, cooperation, and sustainability. As part of the preparations, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has launched extensive beautification and sanitation drives, including night sweeping and decorative illumination across major routes and hotels.

To facilitate the movement of international dignitaries, the Delhi Traffic Police has issued advisories regarding significant traffic diversions at 22 points, affecting over 35 major roads. Commuters are encouraged to use the Metro to avoid congestion.

Diplomatically, the summit serves as a critical platform for strengthening ties. Iran has expressed optimism that the gathering will deepen bilateral trade and strategic cooperation, specifically regarding the Chabahar Port. Meanwhile, India aims to use its presidency to foster inclusive growth and manage internal group dynamics, including navigating complex economic relationships with China and maintaining strategic autonomy for the Global South.
