India mandates e‑KYC for LPG subsidy users by Aug 16

The Indian government has ordered beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) to complete Aadhaar‑based electronic KYC (e‑KYC) by 16 August 2026. Failure to do so will temporarily suspend the ability to purchase LPG cylinders at the subsidised domestic rate, though service can resume once e‑KYC is completed.

Oil marketing companies such as Indian Oil are urging users to complete the process via the IndianOil ONE app, their LPG distributor, or delivery personnel, and note that the e‑KYC can also be done from home. The deadline coincides with a second consecutive reduction in commercial LPG cylinder prices, while domestic cylinder rates remain unchanged.

The move aims to curb fraudulent connections and ensure subsidies reach the intended households, but reports indicate challenges for elderly, disabled, and those with poor internet connectivity.
