India marks one‑year anniversary of deadliest Air India crash in Ahmedabad

On 12 June 2023 a London‑bound Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner crashed shortly after take‑off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, striking the B J Medical College hostel in Ahmedabad. The accident killed 241 passengers and crew and 19 people on the ground, with only one survivor.

A year later, families, officials and community groups gathered to remember the 260 victims. In Rajkot, the Jain Vision Group organised a Navkar mantra chanting ceremony attended by the late Vijay Rupani’s family and local dignitaries. In Ahmedabad, the Civil Hospital held a prayer session, pledged to plant 260 trees in memory of those lost, and ran a blood‑donation camp. Families such as the Patnis, who lost a 14‑year‑old boy, continue to mourn while the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau’s probe remains ongoing.
