India Meteorological Department forecasts pre‑monsoon rain and thunderstorms in Tamil Nadu and Delhi

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued forecasts for pre‑monsoon conditions across parts of India. In Tamil Nadu, the agency predicted light to moderate rain with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds of 40‑50 km/h in several districts, including Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Theni, Dindigul, Kanyakumari and the Western Ghats, through June 24. Temperatures are expected to reach about 38 °C with minimums near 29 °C.

In Delhi, the IMD forecast light rain, thunderstorms and gusts up to 60 km/h on Saturday, with maximum temperatures staying below 40 °C (around 37‑39 °C) and lows around 25‑27 °C. The rain and storms are expected to provide relief from earlier extreme heat, and the city’s air‑quality index was recorded as moderate (AQI 143). Residents were advised to exercise caution while traveling during the afternoon and evening thunderstorms.
