India faces heavy rain alerts in over 20 states on Aug 1, 2026
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a heavy‑rain and thunderstorm alert for 1 August 2026 covering more than twenty Indian states, including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala and several northeastern regions. Winds of up to 75 km/h are expected, and a deep depression moving west‑northwest at about 17 km/h is driving the widespread storm activity. Gujarat received a red alert for very heavy rain across 13 districts, with additional orange alerts in seven other districts. The agency warned of landslide risk in hill states such as Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Jammu & Kashmir, and advised farmers about possible crop damage and fishermen to stay away from water bodies. In Delhi‑NCR, heavy rain could cause flash flooding, traffic disruptions and a temperature dip to around 33 °C max and 27 °C min. Authorities have urged residents, especially in mountainous areas, to avoid unnecessary travel and to follow local safety instructions.
