India NEET UG re‑exam encounters venue mistake and security crackdown
A technical error by the National Testing Agency (NTA) listed the United Arab Emirates' Abu Dhabi as the test centre for a Nagpur‑based candidate scheduled for the NEET‑UG re‑exam. The student’s passport was not available, prompting the family to raise concerns. NTA acknowledged the mistake as a “technical glitch” and promised to issue a corrected admission card for a local centre.
The re‑exam, held on June 21, will see over 2.2 million medical aspirants across 551 Indian cities and 14 overseas locations. In response to earlier paper‑leak allegations, authorities have deployed extra police, installed 138,560 CCTV cameras and 51,311 electronic jammers at exam venues, and arranged for Indian Air Force transport of question papers. The central education minister emphasized strict adherence to transparency and security protocols.
These measures aim to ensure a smooth conduct of the nationwide test after the May 3 exam was cancelled following a leak scandal.
