India observes Kalashtami Vrat and Ashadh Janmashtami on July 7, 2026

Hindus in India observed two monthly religious occasions on 7 July 2026, the day of the Ashadha month's Krishna‑paksha Ashtami. The Kalashtami Vrat is dedicated to Kal Bhairav, a fierce form of Shiva. Devotees performed the prescribed puja during specific muhurats—Brahma muhurat (04:08‑04:49 am), Sandhya muhurat (04:29 am‑05:29 pm), and others—offering mustard oil lamps, dhupa, flowers, and foods such as black sesame, coconut, and sweets. The observance is believed to remove obstacles, protect from enemies and bring success.

The same day also marked Ashadh Masik Janmashtami, the monthly celebration of Lord Krishna’s birth. Worshippers bathed early, dressed in clean clothes, and offered Panchamrit, yellow garments, butter‑sugar sweets, and performed chants of “Om Namo Bhagavate Vāsudevāya” during the midnight muhurat (12:06‑12:46 am). Both festivals saw large numbers of believers visiting temples, performing rituals and making charitable donations, reflecting the cultural importance of these monthly observances.
