India observes Police Commemoration Day to honor fallen officers

India observed Police Commemoration Day on October 21, a day dedicated to honoring police personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty. The observance traces back to 1959, when ten policemen were killed by Chinese troops during a confrontation at Hot Springs in Ladakh.

In Jammu and Kashmir, the police force held various ceremonies across the Kashmir Valley, including wreath-laying services, commemorative parades, and two minutes of silence. Events were held in several districts, such as Anantnag, Kulgam, Pulwama, and Kupwara, involving senior police officers, civil administration officials, and members of the Army and Central Reserve Police Force.

To support the families of the fallen, district police chiefs read out rolls of honor, distributed gifts to next of kin, and organized interactive sessions regarding welfare. Additional community activities included blood donation camps and sports tournaments held in memory of the martyrs.
