India observes Shani Pradosh Vrat and Sawan Pradosh fasting dates in 2026
Shani Pradosh Vrat is scheduled for 27 June 2026, a Saturday, and is dedicated to Lord Shiva and the planet Saturn. Devotees are advised to observe the fast, perform special prayers at sunset, wear black or blue clothing, and donate black sesame, black lentils, and mustard oil. Rituals also include reciting the Shiva and Shani chants, reading the Shani and Shiva Chalisa, and lighting lamps with mustard oil under a banyan tree.
During the holy month of Sawan, two additional Pradosh fasts will be observed. The Som Pradosh falls on 10 August 2026 (Monday) with the auspicious period beginning at 07:05 PM and ending at 09:14 PM. The Bhaum Pradosh occurs on 25 August 2026 (Tuesday), with its period from 06:51 PM to 09:04 PM. Worship includes early morning bathing, offering water, milk, curd, ghee, honey and Ganga water to the Shiva lingam, and chanting Om Namah Shivaya and the Mahamrityunjaya mantra.
