India offers assistance to end Russia-Ukraine conflict
Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar expressed India's readiness to assist in resolving the Russia-Ukraine conflict during a meeting with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha in Kyiv. Jaishankar emphasized Prime Minister Narendra Modi's stance that the ‘endless war must now give way to the end of war,’ noting that continued conflict results in further death and destruction.
During discussions, Jaishankar highlighted concerns regarding attacks on commercial shipping, which have impacted Indian seafarers and contributed to fuel, fertilizer, and food shortages in the Global South. He reiterated India's position that solutions should not emerge from the battlefield.
In a separate development, Prime Minister Modi met with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Bishkek. Modi urged for a transition toward ending hostilities, stating that every day of war represents a setback for humanity. Putin responded that Russia is on a path toward this goal.
