India rejects UN report inaccuracies regarding Dawood Ibrahim
India has formally rejected a United Nations counter-terrorism report that described the criminal syndicate D-Company as an “India-based” organization. Addressing the UN General Assembly's Third Committee, Indian diplomat Raghoo Puri criticized Special Rapporteur Ben Saul for “glaring inaccuracies” and “incompetence,” noting that the report failed to mention that Dawood Ibrahim has been a wanted terrorist in India since 1993 and currently resides in Pakistan.
India expressed concern that special rapporteurs are releasing reports with factual errors without being held accountable, which the delegation argued presents member states with a “fait accompli” and harms the legitimacy of the UN.
In separate statements at the UN, Indian representatives also addressed other international issues. MP Sudha Murty called for a legally binding international agreement to prevent an arms race in outer space (PAROS), emphasizing that space should remain a domain for peaceful cooperation. Additionally, Congress MP Manish Tewari advocated for an orderly, time-bound transition for the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (IRMCT) to ensure judicial independence and the protection of victims' rights.
