India opposition alliance rallies Congress and Trinamool leaders to tighten unity

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge urged the members of the India opposition alliance to deepen their cohesion in a speech on June 8, saying the Narendra Modi government is continuing “an attack on the Constitution.” He referenced the coalition’s joint stand on 17 April against the proposed constitutional amendment on women’s reservation and delimitation, and warned of voter‑list revisions, rising prices, sluggish investment, MSME distress and alleged misuse of investigative agencies.

Meanwhile, Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee visited Delhi and met Sonia Gandhi at the party headquarters on 10 Janpath. The one‑hour meeting, following an earlier encounter at the alliance’s internal gathering, intensified speculation that the Trinamool may merge with the Congress as Banerjee’s party grapples with internal rebellion and defections to the NDA.
