The Indian government has revised passport fees, with the new rates becoming effective on 1 July. For a 36‑page normal passport, the fee rises from ₹1,500 to ₹2,500, while urgent processing jumps from ₹3,500 to ₹5,000. A 60‑page normal passport will cost ₹3,500 (up from ₹2,000) and ₹6,000 for urgent service (up from ₹4,000). Replacement fees also increase; for a lost or damaged 36‑page passport, normal processing now costs ₹5,000 and urgent processing ₹7,500. Similar hikes apply to 60‑page passports. Validity periods remain unchanged – up to 10 years for adults and up to 5 years for minors. The last date to obtain a passport at the old rates is 30 June. Citizens under 8 years and seniors over 60 years receive a 10 % discount on new passport applications, but not on replacements.

These changes were announced via a Ministry of External Affairs notification and will affect all applicants planning overseas travel, study or employment who need a passport.
