India raises passport fees, new charges take effect on July 1
Effective 1 July 2026, the Indian government has increased the fees for issuing and renewing passports. The cost of a standard 36‑page ordinary passport has risen from ₹1,500 to ₹2,500, while the expedited (tatkaal) service now costs ₹5,000, up from ₹3,500.
Heavier 60‑page passports will cost ₹3,500 for ordinary applications and ₹6,000 for tatkaal. New rates also apply to children’s passports and to replacement passports, with fees ranging from ₹1,750 to ₹8,500 depending on the service level. Additional charges of ₹750 for police clearance certificates have been introduced. The changes are nationwide and apply to all new applications and renewals.
