India raises passport fees under new MEA fee structure

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has implemented a revised fee structure for passport‑related services that takes effect on July 1, 2026. Adult applicants will see the cost of a standard 36‑page passport rise from Rs 1,500 to Rs 2,500, while a 60‑page passport increases from Rs 2,000 to Rs 3,500. Under the Tatkaal (fast‑track) scheme, fees jump from Rs 3,500 to Rs 5,000 for a 36‑page passport and from Rs 4,000 to Rs 6,000 for a 60‑page passport.

Replacement fees also climb, with a 36‑page adult passport now costing Rs 5,000 (up from Rs 3,000) and a 60‑page replacement rising to Rs 6,000. For minors, a fresh 36‑page passport goes from Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,750, and Tatkaal service from Rs 3,000 to Rs 4,250; replacement charges are set at Rs 4,250 (normal) and Rs 6,750 (Tatkaal). Miscellaneous services such as Police Clearance Certificates increase from Rs 500 to Rs 750.

Applicants abroad follow a separate schedule, with a standard 36‑page passport costing $125 and the Tatkaal option $250. A 10 % discount remains for children under eight and senior citizens over 60, though it does not apply to re‑issue applications.
