India raises passport fees effective July 1 2026
From 1 July 2026 the Ministry of External Affairs will increase fees for all Indian passport services. For adults a fresh or renewal 36‑page passport will cost ₹2,500, up from ₹1,500, while a 60‑page passport rises to ₹3,500 from ₹2,000. Tatkaal (urgent) fees also jump: a 36‑page passport will be ₹5,000 (previously ₹3,500) and a 60‑page passport ₹6,000 (previously ₹4,000). Replacement of lost or damaged passports will cost ₹5,000 for a 36‑page and ₹6,000 for a 60‑page document. For minors, a fresh 36‑page passport will be ₹1,750 (up from ₹1,000) and Tatkaal ₹4,250 (up from ₹3,000). Replacement fees for minors rise similarly. Miscellaneous services such as police clearance certificates increase from ₹500 to ₹750. The 10 % discount for fresh passports for children under eight and seniors over 60 years continues, but does not apply to re‑issues.
The fee schedule also applies to applications submitted abroad; for example, a fresh 36‑page passport at Indian missions will cost US$125 and Tatkaal US$250. In Kuwait, the Indian embassy has published local fees in Kuwaiti dinars, with adult 36‑page passports now costing KD 23.8 (up from KD 13.3) and Tatkaal KD 68.7 (up from KD 13.6).
Alongside the passport changes, other July‑1 measures include free Aadhaar email‑address updates until end‑2026, revised credit‑card reward‑point eligibility, spend‑based airport‑lounge access (₹60,000 quarterly spend required), and stricter RBI rules on mis‑selling of financial products.
