Vietnam Prime Minister to attend 18th BRICS Summit in India

Vietnamese Prime Minister Le Minh Hung will attend the 18th BRICS Summit in India on September 12-13, 2026, following an invitation from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. As a partner country of BRICS since June 2025, Vietnam aims to use the summit to promote multilateralism, diversify markets, and strengthen supply-chain connectivity. The summit's theme, “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability,” aligns with Vietnam's focus on digital transformation, green economy, and science and technology.

The summit also serves as a backdrop for significant regional diplomacy. Chinese President Xi Jinping is expected to visit New Delhi for the summit, marking his first visit to India in seven years and a potential moment for China and India to manage bilateral tensions following their 2020 border conflict.

In preparation for the event, Indian authorities have implemented heightened security measures in New Delhi, including traffic adjustments and public safety advisories, to ensure the smooth conduct of the summit and the protection of visiting delegations.
