India rejects Pakistan's threats over the Indus Waters Treaty

India’s foreign ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal strongly dismissed Pakistan’s recent comments threatening military action if the Indus Waters Treaty were challenged. He said the Pakistani statements were attempts to divert attention from its own human‑rights abuses and economic exploitation in the disputed Kashmir area, and that India considers the claims “baseless” and will not be swayed.

Jaiswal also cited Pakistan’s harsh response to protests in Pakistan‑administered Kashmir, including internet shutdowns, curbs on essential supplies and the use of force against demonstrators. He reiterated that India will keep the treaty suspended until Pakistan curtails cross‑border terrorism and respects Kashmiri rights.
