Delhi H1N1 cases surge to 1,777 amid monsoon weather
Delhi is experiencing a significant surge in H1N1 influenza (swine flu) cases, with 1,777 confirmed infections recorded this year. This represents a nearly six-fold increase compared to the 229 cases reported during the same period last year. Recent data indicates a sharp rise in transmission, including 433 new cases in the last 14 days.
Union Health Minister JP Nadda held a high-level review meeting with Delhi Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh to assess healthcare preparedness. The meeting focused on national surveillance, laboratory monitoring, and the availability of critical care facilities. Delhi Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh assured the public that there is no shortage of hospital beds, ventilators, or essential medical equipment in the capital's hospitals, such as Safdarjung and RML.
Medical experts attribute the spike to monsoon conditions, noting that high humidity and temperature fluctuations create an environment conducive to viral circulation. Health officials have issued advisories urging citizens to monitor for symptoms such as high fever, cough, sore throat, and fatigue. Vulnerable groups, including young children, the elderly, pregnant women, and individuals with chronic conditions like diabetes or asthma, are advised to seek immediate medical attention if symptoms persist.
