India says Chabahar port terminal unharmed after US airstrikes

The United States carried out airstrikes on Iran’s Chabahar port earlier this week as part of its new campaign against Tehran. India, which operates the Shahid Beheshti terminal at the port, said the facility suffered no damage. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ranvir Jaiswal told reporters that the terminal was completely intact and emphasized that civilian infrastructure should not be targeted.

India’s involvement at Chabahar is strategic, providing a trade route that bypasses Pakistan and links India to Afghanistan, Central Asia and Europe via the International North‑South Transport Corridor. The port had previously benefited from a six‑month U.S. waiver on sanctions that expired on 29 April. Iranian officials have described the port as a symbol of Indo‑Iran cooperation, while U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth posted an image of a tower collapse during the strikes, without confirming the location.

Both India and Iran say the attacks will not halt development of the terminal, which is viewed as a crucial gateway for regional trade.
