India sees 15% export growth and record defence production in FY27

India's commerce ministry reported that exports rose nearly 15% in the first two‑and‑a‑half months of fiscal year 2027, driven by strong oil shipments and expanding free‑trade agreements with the UK, EU, Switzerland, Norway and forthcoming deals with the United States, Canada and African partners. The surge pushed export earnings to a reported USD 863 billion in FY26 and supports the government's aim of reaching $1 trillion in exports.

In the defence sector, the Ministry of Defence announced a record production value of ₹1.78 lakh crore for FY2025‑26, a 15.6% increase over the previous year, with exports jumping 62.66% to ₹38,424 crore and reaching over 80 countries. Milestones include the successful trials of the indigenous Project Kusha air‑defence system, hypersonic propulsion tests and commissioning of new warships such as INS Dunagiri. The growth reflects the impact of Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make‑in‑India policies.
