India senior citizens seek 1% NEET quota as politicians call for education minister's removal
A 70‑year‑old NEET‑UG candidate, Ashok Bahar, filed a petition in the Lucknow High Court asking the central government to introduce a 1 % reservation for senior citizens in medical college admissions. He noted that other groups such as persons with disabilities and ex‑service members receive special quotas, and that his request, first made to the Ministry of Education in May and June, has not received a response.
Former Delhi chief minister Aravind Kejriwal also demanded that Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan be removed and Sonam Wangchuk be appointed in his place, citing repeated NEET question‑paper leaks and the need for reforms. Kejriwal urged the government to listen to the concerns of youth, students and Wangchuk, saying “the government, students and Wangchuk’s voice must be heard.” Both actions reflect growing pressure for changes in India’s higher‑education and medical‑admission policies.
