India targets developed nation status by 2047

The Government of India has established a strategic roadmap to transform the nation into a developed country, known as Viksit Bharat, by 2047 to coincide with the centenary of its independence.

A central component of this goal is reaching a GDP of at least $10 trillion. To achieve this, experts suggest that India must double its share of international trade, specifically increasing its global export share from approximately 2 percent to 10 percent. Additionally, Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) must grow significantly beyond its current level of just under $100 billion.

Realizing these targets will require deep-seated economic reforms in sectors including land, labor, power, agriculture, infrastructure, and regulatory frameworks. Furthermore, the roadmap emphasizes the necessity of inclusive economic growth to ensure benefits reach the most vulnerable populations, highlighting job creation for youth as a critical priority for both central and state governments.
