India targets developed status by 2047 under Viksit Bharat plan

The Government of India has set a long‑term goal called Viksit Bharat 2047, aiming to transform the country into a developed nation by the centenary of its independence. The roadmap calls for raising the national GDP from roughly $4.5 trillion to $10 trillion, expanding the share of global exports from about 2 % to 10 %, and significantly increasing foreign direct investment. Achieving these targets will require deep reforms in land, labour, power, agriculture, infrastructure and regulatory frameworks.

The plan stresses inclusive growth: expanding social schemes such as the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana, creating jobs for the youth, promoting entrepreneurship, and overhauling education to move beyond rote learning toward vocational and skill training. Commentators such as Dr Mohan Kumar, former Indian ambassador to France, underline that the success of Viksit Bharat depends on delivering tangible benefits to all layers of society, not just macro‑economic statistics.
