India technology market faces declines in smartphone and PC shipments
The Indian technology market is facing significant shifts across the smartphone and PC sectors. According to research from Omdia, smartphone shipments in the third quarter of 2026 fell 26% year-on-year to approximately 35.8 million units, marking the weakest third-quarter performance since 2016. This decline is attributed to rising device prices, cautious consumer replacement cycles, and a shift in festive season timing. Samsung reclaimed the top market position with 6.7 million units, while Chinese manufacturers' combined market share dropped from roughly 75% in 2025 to 68% in 2026.
The PC market is also seeing volatility. While the second quarter of 2026 saw a 14% increase in shipments, Omdia predicts a 22% decline in the second half of 2026 due to rising component costs and early procurement cycles. Total annual PC shipments for 2026 are expected to reach 15.4 million units, a 2.6% decrease from 2025. The market is increasingly shifting toward high-value products, including AI-enabled laptops and premium tablets, as manufacturers like Samsung and Lenovo utilize India as a growing manufacturing and export hub.
