The Indian Army has signed a Letter of Offer and Acceptance (LOA) to acquire FGM-148 Javelin anti-tank guided missile systems from the United States. The procurement, conducted under the Foreign Military Sales program and emergency acquisition powers following Operation Sindoor, is valued at approximately $93 million.

Reports indicate the deal includes up to 100 missiles, 25 reusable command launch units, simulation equipment, training aids, and lifecycle support. The Javelin is a highly advanced, medium-range, “fire-and-forget” weapon system capable of engaging armored vehicles and fortified positions using a “top-attack” mode.

U.S. Ambassador Sergio Gor described the agreement as a significant milestone in bilateral defense relations, noting that it opens doors for potential joint manufacturing and co-production of the Javelin system in India. This move aims to bolster India's anti-armor capabilities, particularly for deployment in mountainous and border regions. Deliveries are expected to commence by the end of 2026-27.
