India to Chair BRICS National Statistical Offices Meeting in Lucknow

India will host and chair the meeting of heads of national statistical offices of the BRICS countries in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, on 3‑4 August 2026. The gathering falls under India’s 2026 BRICS presidency, themed “Building resilience, innovation, cooperation and sustainability,” and adopts the focus “Quality Statistics as a Driver of Change.”

Representatives from Brazil, Russia, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates are expected to attend. The meeting will discuss improving data quality, innovation, dissemination and the development of a mutually agreed framework for the BRICS Joint Statistical Publication and its snapshot series for 2026. A technical session on these topics was held on 16‑17 April 2026.

The event aims to strengthen statistical cooperation, enhance national statistical systems, and support evidence‑based, inclusive development across the BRICS bloc.
