India BRICS presidency activities
Overview
During its 2026 BRICS presidency, themed ‘Building resilience, innovation, cooperation and sustainability’, India has hosted several high-level meetings in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.
In early August, India chaired a meeting of heads of national statistical offices from BRICS member nations. The session focused on ‘Quality Statistics as a Driver of Change’, aiming to improve data quality, innovation, and the development of a framework for the BRICS Joint Statistical Publication.
Later in August, the 18th BRICS Academic Forum convened to discuss the next phase of the alliance as it marks 20 years of cooperation. This forum brought together academics and policymakers to address global governance reforms and strengthen resilience in economic, social, health, and climate systems. Discussions also covered emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence and quantum technologies, alongside sustainable development through green finance.
