On June 12 2025, Air India flight AI‑171, a Boeing 787‑8 Dreamliner bound for London Gatwick, crashed shortly after take‑off from Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. The impact destroyed a medical college hostel complex, killing 241 of the 242 people on board and 19 residents on the ground, for a total of 260 fatalities.
Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu, speaking at the Aircraft Leasing and Financing Summit in GIFT City, Gandhinagar, said the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau’s probe is in its final stage and the full report is expected within a month. He emphasized that the investigation is independent, that the ministry has provided all needed resources, and that it will be transparent, especially given the presence of international passengers.
Naidu also noted that the ministry has set up a dedicated cell to coordinate compensation and address grievances from victims’ families, urging Air India to engage with them promptly.
