Piyush Goyal hailed for India‑UK trade pact as CETA comes into force

India's commerce minister Piyush Goyal was honoured at the UK‑India Awards 2026 in London for his role in strengthening bilateral ties. He announced that the Comprehensive Economic Trade Agreement (CETA) between India and the United Kingdom will be implemented on 15 July, describing it as a “force multiplier” for the global economy. Goyal stressed that the pact will deepen cooperation in trade, investment, technology, defence, critical minerals and other strategic sectors.

Speaking at a business forum, Goyal urged Indian exporters to move beyond modest 5‑10 % growth targets, calling for a bigger share of global markets. He said the new agreement will give Indian companies better access to the UK market and help them compete in global value chains, while also creating new opportunities for British firms in India.
