India criticizes OIC at UN over terrorism and Kashmir remarks
At the United Nations General Assembly Sixth Committee, India criticized the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) for what it termed “wilful blindness” regarding terrorism. Representing India, BJP MP Biplab Kumar Deb accused the OIC of failing to distinguish between victims and perpetrators, specifically regarding India’s actions against terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
Deb defended India’s right to respond to cross-border terrorism, citing the Pahalgam massacre as a primary example. He called for the early adoption of the Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism (CCIT), a framework proposed by India in 1996 that has faced delays due to disagreements over the definition of terrorism.
Other nations participating in the debate on measures to eliminate international terrorism emphasized the necessity of global cooperation. Representatives from Iraq, Angola, and Egypt highlighted the need for international legal frameworks to combat terrorist financing, illicit financial flows, and the movement of foreign terrorist fighters.
