India-US Interim Trade Deal Near Completion, 99% Finalised

U.S. Ambassador to India Sergio Gor told a conference that the India‑U.S. interim trade agreement is "99 per cent complete" and is expected to be signed within the next several weeks. He said the remaining "1 per cent" sticking points are being resolved as top negotiators from both countries conduct a three‑day round of talks in New Delhi.

The U.S. delegation, led by chief negotiator Brendan Lynch, is meeting with Indian officials headed by Commerce Ministry Additional Secretary Darpan Jain, while Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal is slated to meet Gor. Gor highlighted the partnership’s importance for global trade, technology, AI, critical minerals, pharmaceuticals and trusted supply chains, noting that more than 40 % of generic medicines used in the United States are sourced from India.

Both sides see the agreement as creating new opportunities for businesses and workers, and the remaining issues are described as minor, with a focus on finalising the text before a formal signing ceremony.
