India-US Strategic Partnership Deepens Despite Policy Differences, Envoy Says

Indian Deputy Chief of Mission Namgya C. Khampa told a Washington audience on 24 June that, although New Delhi and Washington disagree on some issues, their strategic, economic, technological and security cooperation has become stronger than ever. He described the India‑US partnership as one of the most important bilateral ties of the 21st century, grounded in shared interests, robust trade, joint technology projects and regional security.

Khampa highlighted ongoing negotiations to finalize a bilateral trade agreement, expanding collaboration on energy (crude oil, LNG and civilian nuclear power), artificial intelligence, semiconductors, advanced computing and quantum communication, as well as diversifying supply chains. Defence cooperation now extends beyond exercises to maritime security, intelligence sharing and counter‑terrorism, building on a ten‑year defence framework signed last year. He also praised the Quad (India, US, Japan, Australia) as a key driver of Indo‑Pacific stability and noted the role of more than five million Indian‑origin residents in the United States as a bridge between the two societies.
