India Urges Global Response Following 20 Deaths in Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir Protests

At least 20 protesters were killed by security forces during demonstrations in Pakistan‑occupied Kashmir (PoK), where demonstrators were demanding lower electricity tariffs, cheaper food and the abolition of refugee‑designated seats in the regional assembly. India condemned the crackdown, accusing Pakistan of human‑rights abuses and urging the international community to hold Islamabad accountable.

Indian intelligence agencies warned that the unrest could spill over across the Line of Control. Officials said the Inter‑Services Intelligence may attempt infiltration into Jammu and Kashmir, recruit youths for attacks on sensitive sites such as military installations and transport hubs, and launch disinformation campaigns to shift blame onto India. Security forces in India remain on high alert to avert any such escalation.
