India weather: Heavy rain alerts issued for 13 states

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued heavy rain alerts for 13 states across India, including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Tripura, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. High winds reaching speeds of 40 to 80 km/h are expected in several regions.

In Delhi, heavy rainfall has caused significant disruption, leading to severe waterlogging in areas such as AIIMS and the Supreme Court. At Indira Gandhi International Airport, 18 flights were cancelled and 146 were delayed. While the monsoon appears to be gradually weakening in the Delhi-NCR region, heavy rain is still forecasted for the coming days.

Madhya Pradesh is under an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rain in districts including Tikamgarh, Damoh, Narsinghpur, Betul, and Rajgarh. There is also a heightened risk of flash floods in parts of Odisha, Chhattisgarh, and eastern Madhya Pradesh. In the northern hilly regions, including Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, authorities have warned of potential landslides due to ongoing torrential rains.
