India weather alert: Heavy rain and storms forecast across multiple states

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued widespread alerts for heavy to very heavy rainfall across numerous Indian states due to an active monsoon, a low-pressure area in the Bay of Bengal, and cyclonic circulation.

Key regions facing significant weather disturbances include Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, and several Himalayan states such as Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. In Madhya Pradesh, rising river levels in the Narmada, Betwa, and Chambal have prompted high alerts for low-lying areas. Uttar Pradesh and Bihar are expected to experience intense rainfall and lightning strikes, particularly in the eastern and Terai regions.

In the northern hilly regions, authorities have warned of potential landslides and sudden increases in river water levels, advising travelers to exercise caution. Meanwhile, parts of Delhi-NCR and Haryana may see cloudy skies and light to moderate rain, though some areas could experience strong winds reaching speeds between 50 and 87 kilometers per hour. Residents in coastal Odisha and West Bengal have also been advised to stay away from deep sea waters due to high waves.
