India weather alert: Heavy rain and storms forecast for 14 states

India is experiencing significant weather shifts as the monsoon enters its final stages. The Meteorological Department has issued alerts for heavy rain, strong winds, and thunderstorms across 14 states, including Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Wind speeds in some areas may reach 60 to 65 km/h, and there is a heightened risk of landslides in mountainous regions.

In Central India, heavy rainfall and lightning are expected in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Vidarbha. Northeast states, including Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura, are also bracing for rain and lightning through late September. Coastal regions in Andhra Pradesh and Odisha are expected to see heavy downpours due to a low-pressure area in the Bay of Bengal.

In South India, heavy rain is forecasted for 15 districts in Tamil Nadu, including Chennai and Coimbatore, accompanied by strong winds. Meanwhile, in West Bengal, including Kolkata, a yellow alert has been issued for thunderstorms and rain. In northern regions like Uttarakhand, daytime sunshine is being followed by cooler nights as the weather transitions.
