India weather: heavy rain and flooding alerts across multiple states
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued various weather alerts across India as the southwest monsoon enters its withdrawal phase. While northern regions like Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan are seeing a transition toward drier conditions, several states remain under heavy rainfall warnings.
In Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, rising river levels have caused flooding concerns. The Gandak River has breached embankments in parts of Saran, prompting the deployment of NDRF and SDRF teams. In Lucknow, the Gomti River's rising water levels led to the closure of the riverfront.
Southern states, including Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka, are facing alerts for heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and gusty winds reaching up to 50 km/h. Northeast India is also expected to experience thunderstorms and lightning. Meanwhile, mountainous regions in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are advised to prepare for scattered showers and potential landslides due to heavy rain.
