India weather alert: Heavy rain and storms forecast for Delhi and Uttar Pradesh

The India Meteorological Department has issued weather alerts for several Indian states, including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Madhya Pradesh, forecasting rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds.

In Uttar Pradesh, a low-pressure area over north-eastern Madhya Pradesh and northern Chhattisgarh has caused significant rainfall. Recent recordings include 34 cm in Lakhimpur Kheri and 27 cm in Sitapur. Specific warnings for rain and lightning have been issued for districts such as Bahraich, Farrukhabad, Gonda, Hardoi, Kanpur, and Sitapur. Western Uttar Pradesh may experience winds between 40 and 50 km/h.

In Delhi, cloudy skies and rain accompanied by winds of 40 to 50 km/h are expected. Other states under alert include Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, Punjab, Chhattisgarh, Jammu and Kashmir, Assam, Jharkhand, Telangana, Odisha, and West Bengal. Some regions may also experience hail. Authorities have advised citizens to avoid rivers and canals, and farmers to manage water drainage for crops like paddy, maize, and sugarcane.
